Masterclass with Ana

Large scale Sculpture & Organic Vessels

I am so happy to bring you a very special Saturday retreat day – a full and unhurried day with me in my studio. Focusing on organic shapes, we will explore clay as an intuitive and spontaneous material through the process of dropping into our physical bodies and challenging our curiosity. This workshop will help you move comfortably and confidently into larger and more expressive pieces as we explore scale and texture through a range of hand building techniques.

What to expect

9.30am – 10.15am

Introduction to the day and getting to know each other over coffee and breakfast.

10.15am – 12.30/1pm

Morning clay session: We will drop into the practice with a short session into working with hand-building. Starting with pinching smaller pieces we will gradually scale up to large. You will be growing out of your comfort zone and exploring your capacity. Without an outline in mind, you’ll begin to explore on a larger scale.

1pm – 2pm

Lunch break, time to debrief and chill

1.30 – 2.30pm

Life–drawing with still life, planning our work and ideas for the afternoon session

2.30 – 5.30pm

Afternoon clay session. Individually, you’ll plan a shape and idea you would like to build towards. We’ll have a variety of clay available, and we’ll have options prepared for firmer or softer clays. We will slowly follow the shapes and plans we’ve made in the first session, and explore the form that most naturally evolves for us. Together, with my guidance, we will challenge the issues that arise and complete the piece with this afternoon session.

Wrap up with a glass of wine by Tutto wines

You don't need to have any experience but, if you do, it will be a perfect opportunity for you to explore your practice further. I have designed this retreat programme to encourage you to explore the unexpected, to challenge your curiosity and to create on a scale that is bold and confident. You’ll come out with the knowledge and skill to approach your own forms and techniques with freedom and confidence.

Included:

• A welcome breakfast so we can get to know each other

• A delicious lunch

• All materials and firing for 1 large-scale sculptural piece or 2 - medium ( extra available to be fired at additional charge)

• All the pieces will be carefully dried under Ana’s supervision over the next few weeks, to ensure maximum success rate, then will be glazed and fired, ready to collect within 4-6 weeks

CANCELLATION POLICY

We please ask that you give us at least 1 weeks notice if you need to cancel your Masterclass. If you can’t attend but opt to move you’re booking, we can use your balance against any other workshops / classes.
