The Sky meets the Earth

FIRE, EARTH, WATER and AIR

Sunday 5 April, 2 – 6pm

We are delighted to invite you to Kana x Astrology for Artists workshop The Sky meets the Earth: FIRE, EARTH, WATER and AIR. An experimental collaboration where we’ll combine our creative and spiritual practices and create an inspiring experience for a deeper understanding of ourselves. We’ll work with the four elements in our astrological charts and, simultaneously, we’ll work with clay.

Clay, too often regarded as the most mundane substances, truly contains the whole of life: Fire, Earth, Water and Air. We’ll explore the links between the four elements in your personal chart and the ways in which we express, act, think, feel and – most importantly – the ways we search, get inspired, create work and live life by working with clay.

We chose this potent full Moon in the artistic sign of Libra for this workshop as we want to gather and creatively experience the flowing energy that searches for balance and harmony in this beautiful Moon.

The Moon in Libra invites us to reflect about our relationships. Relationships are mirrors of what we love about ourselves, but also of what we lack, what we don't like, what we wish to have. That's why the real work lies in our relationship with ourselves. And here lays our invitation for this workshop - how can we put healthy boundaries to hold our desires, and from that place communicate our needs while respecting the boundaries of others? If we have our own boundaries we are more able to respect those of the other. And by doing so the relationship is grounded in reality instead of idealised, or carrying unfulfilled expectations. The Moon cycle is about change and renewal and on this full Moon we open our hearts to receive guidance and consciously choose to connect with our feelings and our aliveness through our hands and our cosmic connection.

On this new Moon in Libra we have the opportunity to reinvent or reorient the relationship with ourselves and others - we can't ask the other what we can't give to ourselves. Join us to surrender into yourself, embrace your creativity and empower your artistic energy!

CLAY WORK // During this two layered workshop we will combine Ana’s work with clay and Madeleine’s work with the sky while making ceramic vessels and connecting with your sense of touch. We will work with clay as a tool to observe our surfacing of emotions, characteristics of our being and challenges of our personality. It is a perfect reflection of our sense of who we are right now. Recognising those feelings and emotions, we learn and we meet ourselves. It's a mirror that is so soft that it makes you softer too. It allows you to embrace, it allows you to observe yourself and embrace again. And most importantly it allow us to apply the change, and it teaches us how to change. You can slowly confront your challenges, you can stop and start again. And clay as a forgiving, soft, smooth material will kindly allow you to become who you want to be a little more or a little less.

First hour: SKY // Madeleine will explain the four elements from an astrological perspective, how our search for balance is often related to the lack or abundance of one or more elements in our chart, and how actively adding the missing ingredient can bring us peace, calm and balance.

EARTH // We will use hand building technique for the first hour of our workshop, to reset, recenter and arrive. During the process of making ceramic vessels you will be ask to observe your palette of emotions, your thoughts and feelings, and write them down as we work. You will create few pieces of work which will be important guidance for the rest of the workshop.

Second hour: We will look at your personal charts and how your experience with clay is reflected with the personal amount of Fire, Earth, Water and Air there is in your chart. We will look at what you’ve written and reflected and see how this connects, translates through your work and your experience of yourself and your work.

Third Hour: With Madeleine’s guidance and tips based on your personal chart we will approach clay one more time to create a more mindful piece, made with awareness, gratitude, self observance, self acceptance, forgiveness, love, softness.

Final Hour: Rituals are a way to mark turning points in our lives. The lunar cycle gives you many chances to enact rituals that symbolically welcome changes in your life. We will delve into the Full Moon in Libra, create a ritual together to align ourselves with our senses and embrace all the knowledge and experience from the workshop to release what is not speaking to us any longer.
